The JEANRICHARD brand takes its name from a legendary figure in the watchmaking world: Daniel Jeanrichard. This genius pioneered the development of the watchmaking industry in the Neuchatel Mountains in the late 17th century.
Daniel Jeanrichard was born at the end of the 17th century in the hamlet of Les Bressels, midway between La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle. In 1681, he created his first watch, then set up his watchmaking workshop. He built a machine which he made available to his colleagues, and trained apprentices.
Daniel Jeanrichard was also a major driving force behind the watchmaking industry. He was ahead of his time, demonstrating a talent for innovation. In addition to the production of watches, the region's watchmakers are indebted to him for the invention of machines and tools, and for establishing the basis for learning the art of watchmaking itself.
The master watchmaker opened up new horizons. His descendants have since continued his work. Louis Jeanrichard (1812�?875), Daniel's grandson, is indisputably one of the most gifted watchmakers of his generation.
He exerted a considerable influence on the production of high-quality timepieces. For example, he set up an observatory in his workshop to test the accuracy of his watches, long before the creation of the Neuchatel Observatory.
As a guardian of this extraordinary history, JEANRICHARD continues to honour the pioneer Daniel Jeanrichard. His innovator's spirit remains a core value of the brand. |
